a fearless soul + a little magic

Do you want to be good - or do you want to be great...

Someone said this to me once.  It was a long time ago.  I was moving out on my own for the very first time to pursue my ongoing dream of becoming a rock star.  Yes.  You read that correctly...

I started writing songs when I was six.  I made my first album when I was fourteen - complete with an experienced producer and session musicians and adventures in track mastering for radio.  It won CD Of The Week in Vancouver's local newspaper upon release and my young soul thought that was pretty epic.

Looking back, I didn't see myself as an artist.  I didn't think of myself as a creative.  In fact, I didn't think much about anything at all beyond writing my music.

It was my entire life and my sole focus.

What the fuck is a creative?!??!  This is what I probably would have said to you at the notion.  I was a rebellious individual with an intense need to express myself.  I don't think I ever seriously considered that my creativity would lead to any kind of work - never mind a career.

I'm sure you're wondering by now... Why this is even relevant?

Do you remember your first dream?  That's why.

Some of you may not.  Some of you may.  Some of you may be even living your first dream right now.

Whatever it was or is... It's relevant.

Everything you've loved in your life is relevant.  It's all part - a big part - of what got you here...  And why you're here... And where you're going...

If you love beauty and you NEED to create - because otherwise you go totally nuts - then you're in the right place.

Music was my first medium - but definitely not my last.

What I've come to intimately understand over decades of creative experience is that in order to be your best and most creative self - you're going to need to learn how to HEAL.  This is numero uno!  In order to become truly great - you'll need to recover from various pains almost daily.

It took me a long time to realize that being fearlessly creative was my gift - and also a very special privilege in this world.  Something not to be trifled with or taken lightly.  In the end, it doesn't really matter what tool I'm using.  It could be a makeup brush or a can of hairspray, a camera or an empty website page - or even a derelict commercial space in need of some serious love!

Regardless of the situation, my goal as a professional is to think and behave as creatively as possible.

If you were to ask me what sets me apart from the others, I would tell you this...

I don't flinch.

I've spent my entire life chasing magic.  I don't ask why.  I ask why not.  And maybe without even knowing it at first - I've spent all of my time on this earth developing a hyper-sense of intuitiveness and an artful tact for no fear.  Once I figured this out, it became very difficult for people to bend me into neatly labeled boxes.

You don't need to be SOMETHING to succeed.  You just need to be YOU.

Stop spending all of your time trying to tell people WHAT you are.  Stop hyperactively changing your job title on all of your social media profiles.  If you can't explain it - that's okay.  In today's fast-paced online-driven world especially - WHAT you are is probably going to change pretty regularly over the course of your career.  And the truth is, it doesn't really matter.  What matters is that you SHOW people WHO you are.

What matters is that you make something.

Every.  Single.  Day.

It's a painful process - to travel down the road of great - but that's where I want you to go.  I want you lace up your serious sneakers and take the leap.  Don't be so careful darling...

Careful is boring and time is ticking.

The best part about this whole LIFE thing is that you get to WRITE the story.

And whenever you want - you get to RIGHT the story.

And whenever you're ready to rise - you can.
